When to Schedule

  • Immediately after delivery or discharge from hospital.

  • For babies with low birth weight, feeding difficulties, or jaundice.

What is the Purpose

  • To provide parents with essential knowledge and skills for caring for their newborn.

  • To ensure exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months.

  • To monitor weight gain, feeding patterns, and hydration.

  • To address common newborn issues like colic, spit-ups, sleep patterns, and skin care.

  • To guide on hygiene, vaccination, safe sleep practices, and bonding.

  • To support mothers in overcoming lactation difficulties and boosting confidence.

What to Expect

Prior to the Appointment

  • Parents may note down feeding concerns, frequency of feeds, and baby’s sleep patterns.

  • Growth charts and prior medical reports (if any) are reviewed.

👩‍⚕️ During the Appointment

  • Pediatrician checks baby’s growth, feeding reflexes, hydration status, and overall health.

  • Breastfeeding counselling – latching techniques, correct positions, burping, and frequency of feeds.

  • Guidance on expressed breast milk, formula feeding (if needed), and weaning timelines.

  • Education on cord care, bathing, diapering, and safe sleep.

  • Parents are encouraged to clarify doubts about crying patterns, bonding, and mother’s recovery.

🏠 After the Appointment

  • A feeding schedule and growth-monitoring chart is provided.

  • Parents receive tips on nutrition for the mother, hydration, and rest.

  • Follow-up visits scheduled to track weight gain, feeding efficiency, and development.
